Autopilot CrashLast year Tesla made headlines when a man in Florida died in a car accident with a semi-truck while operating one of their vehicles with Autopilot enabled. The subsequent investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently found that the autopilot system was not to blame for the accident.

Neither the autopilot system nor the driver saw the white tractor trailer pull out in front off the car. Investigators found that the man had a full seven seconds before the crash to take action, but he failed to do so. The investigative findings point to the larger problem we face on the roadways with more and more partially autonomous vehicles: distracted drivers.

Inattentive drivers are increasingly relying on the technology in their cars instead of paying attention to the road and potential hazards around them. Human error is still causing the needless loss of life on our roadways.
