Electronic Logging Devices Do Not Facilitate Unreasonable Searches

New York State’s highest Court, The Court of Appeals has ruled that Electronic Logging Devices (ELD’s)which help commercial trucking companies keep track of their fleet truck’s location, engine hours and miles do not constitute an unreasonable search.  Commercial truck drivers are limited by federal regulations in the number of hours that they can be on the road without a break.  The Court of Appeals held that ELD’s help to reduce traffic accidents caused by driver fatigue.
