Chrystal Benbow, a 43-year-old mentally handicapped woman who resided in a group home, suffered life-threatening injuries on 10/15/17 when the minivan that was transporting her crossed over the double yellow line and caused a head on collision with a pick-up truck. The driver of the minivan claimed that she swerved to avoid hitting an approaching deer. Chrystal suffered spine and abdominal injuries that required her to undergo multiple surgical procedures.
During the litigation, Ira Maurer worked with an accident reconstruction expert to obtain overwhelming evidence in support of the conclusion that the minivan driver crossed over the double yellow line due to distraction and not due to the presence of a deer.Ira Maurer also retained experts in the fields of psychiatry, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology to identify all of Chrystal’s injuries. In addition, Ira Maurer worked with a certified life care planner and economist to ascertain what Chrystal’s damages for future medical care would be.
The case settlement will pay out over $3.88 million
