  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is a Division of the U.S. Department of Transportation. It does safety testing, has some regulatory authority, provides information on traffic safety, and manages vehicle recalls, including tractor-trailer/truck recalls.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) - The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) was established as a separate administration within the U.S. Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000, pursuant to the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999. Its primary mission is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses.
  • Share the Road Safely - This is the website for the Share the Road Safely program, which is administered by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The Share the Road Safely program strives to improve the knowledge of all highway users to minimize the likelihood of a crash with a large truck, and reduce the consequences of those that do occur. The goal of FMCSA is to reduce commercial motor vehicle crash fatalities on the Nation's highways to 1.65 fatalities per 100 million miles of truck travel by 2008.
  • National Safety Council (NSC) - The National Safety Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to traffic safety education. There is some safety information available to the public on the NSC website, and members have access to the organization's vast resources.
  • U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) - The U.S. Department of Transportation oversees the U.S. transportation system. It is made up of a number of organizations dedicated to specific areas of transportation.

  • American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators - AAMVA - This non-profit organization develops model programs in motor vehicle administration, police traffic services and highway safety.   • American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials - AASHTO - Non-profit, non partisan association representing all five transportation modes; air, highways, public transportation, rail and water in the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

  • International Motor Carrier Audit Commission - Independent organization that provides information about the safety performance of motor carriers to the public and transportation industry. Includes a database that provides information to help identify carriers that have demonstrated safer performance.

  • American Society of Safety Engineers - ASSE - founded in 1911, this is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. Its members manage, supervise, and consult on safety, health and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education.
